Example Essay #1

Here is an example of a personal experience essay created by a student at the ELC in a past semester. This is an example of a final draft, but it does not always mean that the writing is perfect. Some errors may be included for your teacher to talk about with the class.

I believe that learning how to play piano is one of the hardest things that most people have been experiencing, and I am one of them. When I was twelve, I started learning piano. That is the hardest thing I have ever done because I did not believe in myself that I could do it. And I know that learning instruments needs time, talent, and practice. To think back, the hardest thing that I have been experiencing in learning instruments helped me improve in two things and shape my life nowadays.

The first thing that learning piano shaped my life would be the way I learn things quickly, and I become more capable in learning. I believe that from what I learn how to remember the note helps me improve in thinking faster and remember things quickly. Why this way is because when learning to remember notes, I need to think and find the way to remember things. In other words, to summaries what I learn and things that I need to remember to play it well. Learning to remember notes is one of the hardest things that I have ever done in my life, but whatever I learn from doing that helps shape my life today.

The second thing that I think learning an instrument that shapes my life today would be, I became someone that is more patient in myself. I know that learning new things needs time and practice. Even though the first time I played piano I did not believe in myself, and it was easy to give the thing up. I remember when my teacher taught me how to listen to the beat of the melody, I cannot be able to listen to the beat and play the note that it should be played. So, two days later I wanted to give it up, but my teacher helped me to get back to playing it again. This time I try to be more patient, especially to be more patient with myself. I practice it every day and later I started to play it better. From what I learned to listen to the beat on that day helped me became more patient with myself which is the way that learning piano helped shape my life nowadays.

To sum up. Learning the instrument could be the hardest thing that people have experienced, because it requires time of practice or even talent that you need to have, and I agree with it. However, I believe that the things that I have been learning and experiencing in those times help shape my life in two ways. Firstly, help me be more capable in learning things faster and secondly, help me become someone that is patient with myself. Those two things I gained from learning piano made my life better in an amazing way. I can say that learning the hard things is the best way to test myself and develop my ability to try new things. That is something that I never regretted that I have been learning the awkward thing.
